QATAR OPEN 2019

First round report

Doha Golf Club welcomed 91 players, both Amateurs and Professionals to the 33rd edition of the Qatar Open, in partnership with the Qatar Golf Association.

A fantastic morning, with very little wind welcomed the players, with a course in fantastic condition.  A huge credit to Ranald McNeil (Course Superintendent) and his team.

The early starters had the best of the conditions, as the wind gradually increased during the day.  Niclas Johansson returned a fine 67, to lead the Professionals section, later joined by Pavan Sagoo.   Adrian Meronk is a shot behind with a four under 68.

In the amateur section, Doha Golf Clubs Mikkel Mathieson returned 3 birdies with just a solitary bogey, to finish on 3 under.   2 under was the leading amateur score with Jan Szmidt Jr also at the same mark.

After round 2, a cut will be made for the final day, with the top 50 and ties progressing, with a chance for spots in the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters, to be played at Doha Golf Club from 7-10 March 2019.  The top 3 professionals, and the leading amateur will gain automatic entry in to the famous European Tour event.
