The 2023 edition of the Qatar Seniors Open, sponsored by Hydrofab and the Kazi Family, was held this past weekend at Doha Golf Club
With perfect playing conditions, well over 100 players, aged 45 and over, completed 36 holes over the 2 days, followed by a buffet and presentation yesterday evening
With a wonderful array of prizes on offer, golfers chased down each other during the shotgun start format.
In the Ladies event, Uzma Mir has 2 consistent rounds of 84 gross to win, with Nichapa Wichaidit winning the nett event with a two round total of 151
In the Men’s nett division, day one saw both Winston Agcon and Mark Rowland return nett 68’s, with Ranald McNeill, Yohann Pedder and sponsor, Fazal Kazi returning the only other under par nett scores. Day 2 scoring was easier for Ranald, and returning a nett 67 made him the clear winner by 4 shots. Winston Agcon finished runner, up, Mubarak Essa Al Kuwari (Qatar) in 3rd place, with Andrew Napier in 4th place
In the coveted Men’s scratch division, it was one of the closest events hosted at the club, with only 1 shot separating the top 4 players. Day 1 leader, Naser Yaqoob (Bahrain), fell back with a gross 81. Home club members, Claes Byberg & Kittisak Sang Orn both returned the same scores each day, with Kittisak piping Claes to second place. Hamad Mubarak Alafnan, a previous 5 time winner of the Qatar Open, was the model of consistency, returning a pair of 76’s to win the event by a single shot
Doha Golf Club & the Qatar Golf Association would like to convey special thanks to our event sponsors, Hydrofab, and the Kazi Family for their continued support over the years
