Second round report
Friday produced a far tougher day for the competitors, with a cooler breeze in play from first light this morning.
In the Professionals section, Adrian Meronk shot a second 68 (-4), to lead the way on 136 total (-8). Mateusz Gradecki shot the 'round of the day', returning a fine 5 under par , 67, with a 6 under total, 2 behind the leader. Round one leaders, Niclas Johansson, and Pavan Sagoo, both shot one over 73's, to still remain in the hunt on a 4 under total. Three further professional's are under par, with a good chance of capturing one of the top 3 places.
In the amateur section, home favorite, and Doha Golf Club member, Mikel Mathieson, returned a 71 for a 3 under total. Starting at the 10th hole, Mikel raced to the turn in 33 (-3), but 2 solitary bogeys on the back 9 added up to a one under, 71. Jan Szmidt Jr is still in the chase for a Commercial bank spot, adding a 73 to his first round 70, to have a 143 total, one under par.
The cut has been made with the top 50 and ties progressing through to Saturday's final round. 51 players now have a chance for spots in the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters, to be played at Doha Golf Club from 7-10 March 2019. The top 3 professionals, and the leading amateur will gain automatic entry in to the famous European Tour event.
